Meetings with Earth Angels

“Earth angels help others remember who they are.”

– Doreen Virtue.

What exactly is an Earth Angel?

Well, in one sense they’re what you might call “lightworkers”; people who’s purpose on this earth is to shine their light, heal others and help humanity to ascend and awaken spiritually.

They’re doctors, scientists, Reiki healers, comedians, teachers and even gardeners.

In the novel One Day by David Nicholls I feel the character of Emma sums up what it means to be an Earth Angel perfectly.

She says her goal is to “Not change the world exactly, but the bit around (her).”

That’s all any of us can really do and it’s important to remember on those dark days when the most empathic among us may feel the intensity of the pain, destruction, war and conflict of the world upon our shoulders.

But I also believe that Earth Angels can be Angels who incarnate and discarnate at will in order to help us.

You might have read stories of people who’ve been visited by Angels and saw a spectacular dazzling vision of light, a figure with halo and wings.

But I believe I’ve been visited by Angels who just looked like normal people.

When I hadn’t long moved to London I decided to go busking.

I’d just done some work with a spiritual mentor and handed over my will and my life to my Higher Power by saying a prayer by the Thames.

Then I crossed the river, whipped out my ukulele and started to play and sing.

But it didn’t feel right. I knew I was in a restricted zone so it technically wasn’t allowed. I saw every glance from passers by as an acknowledgment of my inadequacy or failure.

Then a man approached me, he didn’t look extraordinary, just a middle-aged slightly overweight man in a polo shirt.

Normally when people encroach on my personal space I feel very uncomfortable and nervous, especially when I’m busking.

But a wave of calm washed over me and I felt at complete ease in this man’s presence.

He said, “Why are you doing this?”

I assumed he was some sort of law enforcement and started to stutter my excuses.

He said, “No why are you doing this? You’re not giving it 100%. You’re slouched against the wall. I don’t know if you’re talented or not but you have to give it your best.”

Then I poured my heart out. I said I’d never busked in London before, that it was scary and out of my comfort zone. That I was afraid people wouldn’t like me or my music.

He said “There’s always going to be people who won’t like what you do. But why don’t you just try your best for 10 minutes.”

I agreed, looked away for a few seconds and when I looked back he’d vanished.

Later I rationalised that maybe he’d just walked away quickly and just got lost in the crowd.

But in that moment I knew it was a divinely special encounter.

Another time I was on a train and chatting about my relationship woes to a friend on the phone.

When I got up to leave the train this man came up to me and handed me a note.

He said, “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation and it’s strikingly similar to my own experience. Have a read of this.”

I was a bit stunned but thanked him.

Later I read the note and it was startling how much his relationship mirrored my own. He’d left his e-mail address and I replied. The system kept saying it was un-deliverable but somehow he received every one of my e-mails even though I’d spelt his name differently each time.

I’m not sure if he was an Angel incarnate but the universe definitely mobilised him in that moment to reach out to me.

There were also various times when I ended up crying in public but someone always came up to me to ask if I was ok and took time to listen to me.

In a city as vast and busy as London, where many would have you believe that humanity is dead, this really struck me.

So be open to the magical encounters you may have in your life and consider, is that random stranger heaven sent or could they actually be an Angel in disguise?

How to use Tarot to manifest your desires

Tarot cards are a powerful spiritual tool that allow us an insight into our subconscious and can help us to communicate with our ancestors and spirit guides.

But did you know that Tarot can also be used with the law of attraction to manifest our dreams and desires?

Every tarot card not only holds an image imbued with symbolism and meaning but also an ENERGY.

It is this energy which can allow us to manifest the life we dream of.

Here’s some ideas to get you started….

vision board 1.jpg

Tarot Vision board

Create a vision board using tarot cards (you might want to reserve a deck especially for this purpose).

Think of a goal, dream or desire that you have and keep it in mind as you shuffle the deck.

Ask your angel and spirit guides to reveal the card that will help you to manifest your goal (s).

Stick each card on the board and write down some affirmations on a piece of paper.

Pin this next to it (or if using a white board you can write them around the card).

E.g You might have the goal to love yourself and be healthy and happy in your own skin. The card that might come out of the deck is The Empress and your affirmations could be “I am happy and healthy”, “I love and accept myself”, “I am and peace and feel comfortable in my own skin.”

candle magick

Manifestation spell

Start by casting a circle.

The simplest way to do this is to call in the elements or spirits of fire, earth, air and water and with your hand, a feather or a wand turn in a clockwise circle and visualise a bright white light surrounding you.

Ask for protection and assistance from your angel and spirit guides.

Write down your “manifesto” on a piece of paper.

Ask for assistance and guidance from your angel and spirit guides or appropriate Gods/Goddesses/Deities.

Here’s an example,

“Guardian Angel, heavenly spirit of the cosmos and Goddess Selene,

Please help me to feel whole, happy and healthy again,

Remove the energy and mental blockages that are holding me back

Let me live in abundance, and not in lack.”

Say this out loud x 3 and end with “And harm none, So mote it be.”

Fold up the paper and write the name of the person who the spell is for on the front (whether it is for you or someone else) and go over this with a pentacle symbol (pentagram inside a circle).

Once again shuffle your deck and ask for the card (s) to be revealed that will help you to achieve the desired outcome of the spell.

Place your folded up paper on top of the card.

Then light a candle, place this on top of the card(s) and folded-up-paper (make sure it’s in a heat-proof container) and spend a few moments visualising the positive outcome you desire.

Close your circle by thanking your angel and spirit guides and using your hand, wand or a feather to turn in an anti-clockwise direction. Ask for the energy and magic you have cultivated to be released into the universe in order to manifest your desire.

This is most powerful if conducted at the appropriate Moon phase, i.e Full Moon = Fulfilment/completion/wishes, Waning moon = letting go/releasing, New Moon = New beginnings, Waxing moon = building/working towards something.

WARNING: Be very specific and careful what you wish for!

5 ways to protect your energy

Energy.

From the actions we take, to our motives and intentions, to the words we speak and the feelings we emit.

Everything is energy.

That’s why it’s so important to look after and protect it.

When I say energy I’m not talking about our physical energy (which is also important) but rather our subtle energy bodies, our chi, our life force, which can be easily drained and infected in the same way we can catch a cold or flu.

When our aura or energy field is imbalanced this in turn can affect our mental, spiritual and physical health.

Think about it.

Have you ever come home a party feeling extremely drained?

Have you ever been in a large crowd but still felt stressed out and tense once in the solitude of your own home?

Have you ever been around or spoken to someone who was depressed, anxious or having a bad day and when you left them you found you’d absorbed some of this energy?

The chances are, at some point you’ve been affected by someone else’s energy.

As a tarot reader and an empath this is something I have to be extremely conscious of.

In order to do a reading I have to connect with another person’s energy so I can intuitively understand what’s going on for them.

But even if you’re not in a profession that requires you to connect with someone on an empathetic or psychic level it’s still important to look after your energetic health.

These tips will help you to detach from the energy of those around you so you can feel more energised, positive and calm on a daily basis…

1. Avoid people and situations that drain your energy

This is not always possible, but when you can, try to be mindful of “energy vampires.” That is to say, people who wallow in low vibrational energy and (unconsciously) drag you down to their level through offloading their woes, anxieties and negativity. This doesn’t mean you can’t be there for a friend who’s having a hard time or lend a kind ear to someone in need. Just check in with yourself before you pick up the phone, reply to that message or agree to a catch up. Does the thought of it fill you with dread and a tightness in the stomach or do you feel light and open? It’s ok to say no, have boundaries and perhaps delay engaging with such people until you feel stronger and more able to cope on an energetic level.

Likewise, you can turn down that party invitation or social invite if you feel like you just need to be on your own. Relax in your own energy for a while and take a moment to recharge.

2. Visualisation

Inevitably you will encounter situations where you have to be around people who will affect your energy. Perhaps you’re a teacher, counsellor, journalist, nurse, doctor or police officer. Most jobs involve having some sort of interaction with other people and some are more draining than others. In these cases it can help to start the day with a simple meditation. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and visualise a large glass dome or a bright white light all around you. Feel it envelop you and surround you. Call on your angels, guides or Higher Power to place this energetic protection around you, making your aura less susceptible to negative energies. Ask for any negative energies coming towards you to be transmuted by this invisible force field. Feel the strength and power of this divine protection. Take another deep breath, open your eyes and carry on with your day.

3. Limit social media

This is something I personally struggle with. When scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. it can be very easy to be drawn into the stories, rants, woes and misgivings of others. Soon you find yourself feeling angry, sad, upset or annoyed by something that really has nothing to do with you. It might help to have a designated time of the day that you use social media. Avoid using it straight before bed or as soon as you wake up. Having these periods where you can just be at peace with yourself and your own thoughts will help you to replenish your energy reserves.

4. Crystals

Certain crystals can also offer protection from psychic or energetic attack. All you need to do is cleanse your crystal (with sage, incense, water, or by placing it in salt overnight) and then charge it with your intention to be energetically and psychically protected. Just hold it for a minute or two and affirm “I am safe and protected from all negative energy.” It can help to visualise bright white light flowing into your crystal through the top of your head and into your crystal via your arms and hands or you can blow on the crystal whilst keeping your intention in mind. Carry your crystal with you in your purse, pocket or even your bra. Remember to cleanse and re-charge it regularly.

My favourite protective crystals are….

  • Black Tourmaline
  • Snowflake Obsidian
  • Tiger’s Eye
  • Onyx
  • Sapphire

5. Cleanse your energy

After a long day it can help to cleanse your auric field of all the energetic debris you may have picked up. You can do this in several ways…

  • Have a soak in a bath with dead sea salts, rosemary and peppermint oil.
  • Smudge your aura with White Sage (in smudge stick or incense form).
  • Do a meditation where you visualise a bright white light cleansing your aura and washing away all negative energy.
  • Call on Archangel Michael to cut any negative energy cords and attachments with his fiery blue sword.
  • Go for a walk and feel the wind and rain cleanse you of all the energies of the day.
  • Have a shower and visualise any negative energy being washed away down the plug hole.

I see dead people….I’m a medium!

It’s one of the greatest cinematic moments of all time.

That scene in the Sixth Sense when Cole tells Bruce Willis that he can “see dead people.”

I never thought I would be able to possess this gift and I can tell you that for me it’s not like the movies.

My interest in Mediumship came after Tarot and even slightly before I decided to call myself a Witch.

I started out by reading a book by Gordon Smith, a well renowned Scottish medium and soon after I began attending an open circle at a Spiritualist church.

I started with the basics – meditation, sitting in the power and also trying to see if I could deduce things about my tarot clients prior to meeting them.

The messages I’d get were varied and sometimes jumbled.

I’m clairaudient – sometimes I hear a word spoken or a song plays in my head which has  special significance to my client. (My favourite instance of this was when I got “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson regarding a love interest.)

I’m clairvoyant – sometimes I see a picture in my mind’s eye that can be taken literally or symbolically. e.g a field of wheat could mean a client has a farming connection or that it’s time for them to harvest the fruits of their labour.

I’m clairsentient – when doing a reading my favourite phrase is “I feel like…” i.e the cards produce a sensation in me of “just knowing” that something is true, an intuitive knowledge.

However, up until recently I hadn’t really been able to connect with any specific loved ones from the other side.

Honestly, I’d started to doubt whether I could be a Medium at all.

But the other night, during a tarot reading, I had a breakthrough.

I was doing several readings back to back and one of my clients asked me if she could connect with loved ones who had passed.

She didn’t state exactly who she wanted to contact but I said I’d give it a go.

When I laid the cards down and started to describe the sort of woman who was coming through it was clear that I’d connected with her boyfriend’s mother, a woman who in turn was like a mother to my client.

The traits I described seemed to resonate and moths and daddy long legs made themselves known – which I told my client was a sign of this lady in spirit.

Then, with my next client soon afterwards, I was asked to connect with a specific person, this time a grandfather.

As before I laid the cards down and it was obvious that we’d made contact.

But then something amazing happened.

I could actually see this lady’s grandfather in my mind’s eye!

I didn’t have my eyes closed but I could see his face as clearly as if he was sitting in front of me.

I was able to confirm that he had a tooth missing and was holding a bunch of daffodils (which my client told me were her grandma’s favourite).

Everything I said my client was able to confirm and I was touched by how emotional the experience was for her.

Her grandfather was laughing and smiling and being able to pass on this information was such a joy.

I left that reading feeling uplifted and more sure of my path in life.

The work I do with spirit is both a privilege and an act of service.

This is my soul’s purpose.

Stepping out of your comfort zone, stepping into balance

balance

What is your comfort zone? How do you step out of it?

For some people challenging themselves might mean going out more, meeting new people, trying a new hobby or visiting a new place.

But recently I’ve realised that for me it means taking things down a notch, slowing the pace and allowing myself to CHILL.

I’m most comfortable living life at a pace of 100 mph.

Never content with just sitting still, I always have to be doing something whether it’s discovering aerial hoop classes, dancing, going out with friends, writing a song, writing a book, studying something or pushing myself to a new limit.

But what inevitably happens is that I take on too much, get stressed, panic about the amount of things I have to do and then realise I’ve got no one to blame for it but myself.

My cat Smokey teaching me how to be zen

It all boils down to finding the right balance in life – something which may seem difficult to do but is actually incredibly simple.

Now every time I do something I need to ask myself – Why am I doing this?

Am I doing a dance class because I think I need to lose weight or because I enjoy it?

Am I writing a blog because I want likes and followers or because I want to help others?

Am I reading a book/article because it’s on a topic I feel I should know more about or one that I’m genuinely interested in?

When we examine the motives behind our actions we get to the core of what’s going on.

For me it’s usually pride, self-doubt, fear and perfectionism.

Deep down part of me still thinks I’m not good enough and therefore have to prove myself to the world.

But I don’t and neither do you.

So today, have a rest, put your feet up, take 10 minutes to meditate, read a celebrity magazine, watch TV or do a crossword – whatever makes you happy.

We don’t need to constantly grasp for something to make us whole.

We can be liberated from our negative self-talk and the shoulds, and coulds, and “need to” statements.

Everything we need is within.

Panic Attacks – 5 tips to help you calm down

Panic Attack: a cool name for a rock band but the mental equivalent of being struck by lightening.

Since the age of 16 I’ve suffered with them, some more severe than others.

But recently I really thought I’d turned a corner.

I hadn’t had a panic attack in over a year and was feeling pretty smug about my new life in London.

The day started like any other, I did my morning meditation, hopped on the tube and began my commute.

But for some reason I felt off – a vague sense of irritability that I couldn’t quite explain.

By now I’m used to playing human tetris on the tube but on this particular day I felt very crowded and claustrophobic like I wanted to wave a magic wand and make all the other people disappear.

Then when I got to Bank where I had to change lines I started to cry a bit and suddenly became anxious that I wasn’t going to get off in time and would miss my stop.

I jumped up and tried to push out past a man, frantically saying, “excuse me, excuse me” but there were people getting off from the other side of him so he said “just wait a minute love.”

That was it, I flipped.

I was so angry that he called me “love”, he probably didn’t mean anything by it but in that moment I felt patronised, invisible.

When I got up to ground level the panic was in full flow.

Heart racing I leant my head against a brick wall and just let the tears fall, whilst trying to stop my negative thoughts from spiralling out of control.

“I’m pathetic, why is this happening, I thought I was done with panic attacks, I’m going to have to quit my job again, I can’t cope with life, what must people think of me, I’m meant to have my shit together now, I’m a mess…”

Breathe in, breathe out, it’s going to be fine.

Then a kind lady came and asked me if I was ok.

I’ve always been incredibly humbled by the kindness of strangers.

I told her thank you, that I’d be fine etc.

Then I wiped away my tears, took a few more deep breaths and walked into the office like nothing had happened.

It was just a blip, a rocky ten minutes in a 24 hour day.

It doesn’t define who I am or how I’m feeling and I don’t need to beat myself with the “shoulds” and the “could haves” and the “whys” of it.

If you suffer from panic attacks here are some tips for calming down that have worked for me over the years…

pexels-photo-185939.jpeg

1.) Emergency paper bag

Keep a paper bag on you that you can breathe in and out of.

You probably won’t want to draw attention to yourself but you can also do this in the toilets or by shutting yourself in a room like a stationery cupboard.

Take a deep breath and with the bag held tightly around your mouth, exhale deeply until it expands fully.

Repeat many times as necessary.

Top tip – If you use female toilets, the little hygiene sanitary bags that you sometimes find in there are really good for this.

2.) Deep breathing

The same principle as the paper bag breathing.

Focus entirely on your breath – in through your nose, out through your mouth.

Every time your mind snaps back to a negative or anxious thought just guide it gently back to the breath.

Try inhaling to the count of 4, hold for 5, and exhale for 7. Repeat as necessary.

3.) Close your eyes and say a little prayer

Once you’re in a safe space, i.e. not driving, standing in the middle of the road or in a busy crowd, just close your eyes and focus on the present.

Then say a little prayer “Please, (Insert higher power here), take this feeling of panic away from me, help me to be calm.”

If you’re not religious or spiritual and don’t believe in any kind of cosmic force, higher power, Unicorn god etc, then just tell yourself that it’s going to be ok, you’re loved and you’re safe.

4.) Lavender oil

As well as being a great aid to sleep, lavender oil can help you to feel more calm and relaxed.

Keep a little bottle with you and if you feel panicked, dab a couple of drops on your wrists and rub them together.

Bring them up to your nose and inhale deeply, then put a couple of drops on each finger and rub them on your temples.

5.) Walk it off

Sometimes if you’re in public and are a bit exposed it’s not as easy to go off to a quiet place and have some time by yourself.

Keeping moving can also calm down those feelings of stress and anxiety.

If you’re in a city/town try walking up and down the same street or doing a few laps of a building.

Focus on your senses – what you can see, hear and smell.

Distract yourself by noticing all the dogs that walk past, the colour red, street signs, things beginning with “P” or anything else you can think of.

If you don’t know the area, don’t wander too far or else you might get lost (I have done this before.)

Spirituality

I got up at 5am to go to a sober rave and here’s what happened…

I wake up as my alarm goes off.

The time is 5am.

My usual routine is get up, turn off alarm, doze for half an hour and then leave the house in a panicked rush.

Today is different. I’m excited.

I catch my usual tube, taking the central line into London.

In my neon leggings I stand next to men in neatly ironed suits who are on their morning commute.

I’m also on my way to work, but I’ve got somewhere to be first.

This morning I’m going to a sober rave.

IMG_1846[1]

Morning Gloryville was founded in London in 2013 by Nico Thoemmes and Sam Moyo and is described as an “immersive morning dance party.”

Since it began it has developed into a global community of conscious clubbers with events taking place all over the world.

The main principals of the community as described in the manifesto are sustainability, love, harmony, evolution, balance, creativity and spiritual growth.

I’ve never been a morning person (aside from slightly manic, stressful periods when I would wake up early or in the middle of the night.)

Generally, I’m always craving five more minutes in bed and before I have my first coffee of the day I don’t feel human so I was skeptical of the idea that an early morning party could “energise” me for the day ahead.

girl with hula hoop on dance floor Morning Gloryville

When I arrive at the venue (The Ministry Of Sound) it seems a bit dead.

I’m expecting hoards of people to be queuing up but there’s only a couple milling about in the drizzle.

It’s too early to get in so I make conversation with Sam, a client partner and fellow Morning Gloryville virgin.

“A few of my friends tried it a couple of years ago and they said it was really good fun so I thought I’d give it a try too,” she says.

After having our auras cleansed by Paulina with a feather duster, we go inside where we are offered a hug by one of the “Wake-Up Angels.”

Against the energetic thud of a cool dance beat, an array of glittering, smiling people in brightly-coloured spandex convalesce in the entry room.

There are stalls with smoothies and raw vegan snacks, people contorting themselves into impressive yoga positions and a woman offering Angel Card readings.

It’s like I’ve stepped through the looking glass and into a fantasy world filled with all of my favourite things.

IMG_1859[1]

It’s amazing but also slightly overwhelming.

Like a kid in a sweet shop I don’t know what to try first.

In the end I opt for an Angel Card reading with the lovely Gilly Bean.

For Gilly, Morning Gloryville is all about making time in our busy lives to relax and re-focus on what’s truly important to us – whether or not that involves help from the angels.

She says, “It’s a really nice place where people are here enjoying themselves.

“It’s a time to take for yourself and to just enjoy connecting with what messages are coming through for you.”

Yoga at Morning Gloryville London

This particular event is called The Big Spring Clean and has a focus on sustainability.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own refillable water bottles and there is a station manned by Swapaholics UK where you can trade in and swap second hand clothes.

I bump into a woman I initially clocked on the tube but was too shy to speak to.

Luisa Agliatta, an interdimensional metaphysical healer, has been coming to Morning Gloryville for a couple of years.

She says, “I’ve always loved a good party without all the heaviness of having to drink or take any drugs.

“I’m really not into that because it’s a bit contrary to my work.

“I’m a morning person so I like mornings. It just sets your day off beautifully.

“You get so much energy, meet some nice people and have a nice time.”

The zero alcohol element was also what attracted me to the event.

IMG_1833[1]

As a recovering alcoholic I’ve learnt that I can have much more fun sober than I ever had when I was drinking.

For years I’d convinced myself that dancing to shit music in dingy nightclubs, knocking back shots of vodka (which I would vomit up the next day) and blacking out was fun.

It wasn’t.

This is a sentiment that’s shared by Charlie Elliott who’s launching a business in holistic healing and has a background in mental health.

She says, “What’s really beautiful is that I know a lot of people that are in recovery.

“Discovering events and communities like this can be a game changer because it’s like ‘wow you can have so much fun and feel this connected, to people, to music, to expression and creativity without drugs, without any influence.’

“I think that in itself is a really powerful option for people.”

IMG_1850[1].JPG

The event is also very inclusive and welcomes people from all walks of life.

Charlie adds, “It’s so diverse. You’ve got all ages, all races, all backgrounds, all religions coming together. It’s almost quite spiritual. We’re all here dancing.

“It’s like family to me.”

After a brief spin on the dance floor it’s time for me to get to work.

My time here was short-lived but there’s no doubt I’ll be back.

Lots of people complain about Londoners being callous and alloof.

But Morning Gloryville has an amazing sense of togetherness, community, joy and vibrancy.

In a room full of strangers, I feel like I belong.
