Spiritual Lessons I learnt from SNAILS

A fun fact you probably don’t know about me is that I have pet snails.

Yes, that’s right.

The normal garden variety – not fancy African Land Snails.

Just over a year ago I was sitting in a pub and when I went to take a drink from my water bottle there was a little baby snail on it.

It was so tiny!

I allowed it to slime onto my hand and my tights and marvelled at how cute and seemingly defenseless it was.

When I left to go home I tried to put him on the grass but he retreated back inside my (now empty) water bottle and honestly I’d never seen a snail so small, I couldn’t imagine how he’d ever survive to adulthood!

His shell was translucent. I just wanted to protect him.

This was how I met Snigel.

I called him Snigel because his first home was an old Swedish Glace ice cream tub (great Vegan ice cream btw!) and the Swedish word for Snail is Snigel – clever eh?

He later upgraded to a celebrations tub and now has a fancy terrarium.

(Side note: I say “he” but snails are all hermaphrodites and can take on either the mother or father role in the mating process.)

Snigel was so tiny!

I firmly believe that Snigel came into my life as a spirit animal at a time when the Universe was screaming at me to slow the F down!

I was always busy, always on the go, doing music and comedy gigs, building my business, socialising.

I just didn’t know how to slow down.

Part of this was because I was going through a difficult break up and was distracting myself.

Unconsciously I was just “doing” so I didn’t have to “be” and sit with my feelings.

But Snigel changed that.

I loved watching him and seeing how he moved.

I learnt that snails actually have personalities and that Snigel is an adventurer and maverick at heart.

He was always escaping from his tub and ending up in weird places around the kitchen, such as high up on the wall tucked inside the rim of the boiler.

He taught me to (literally) think outside the box and not allow myself to be limited.

Snails are mostly deaf and blind so their senses of taste and smell are heightened.

Snigel reminded me to feel things out intuitively.

He taught me that sometimes you need to retreat and go back inside your shell.

He taught me to appreciate the simple pleasures in life, which in his case are broccoli stalks and calcium powder.

He taught me to be inquisitive and I relished researching more about a creature I’d previously never given much thought.

I fell in love with nature again and how weird and ingenious she can be – did you know that snails poo via their lung cavity?

I soon found that other snails naturally gravitated towards me in need of assistance.

One that had a flaky, dry shell slimed across my living room window and front door so I gave it some calcium powder to help rebuild it.

Another was on my back doorstep and I gave it a leaf from my chilli plant.

In the morning the snail had gone and had eaten a tiny little hole in the leaf!

I began to notice snails everywhere and now I always help them by picking them up and putting them into the side of the pavement or hedge so they won’t get stepped on.

I learnt the value of being of service, no matter how big or small the gesture.

Snails are naturally social creatures so Snigel was going to get lonely on his own.

He now has two friends, Dandy and Twiggy, who also seemed to find me, rather than me finding them.

You might not think it’s possible to bond with a mollusc but I truly believe that love comes in all shapes and sizes and can be found in the most unexpected of places.

That’s the most important lesson of all.

5 reasons to love your body right NOW

I used to hate my body.

I thought I was too “fat” and I didn’t like my wobbly stomach so I sucked it in, wore spanx and crash dieted.

If I wasn’t emotionally eating and bingeing on chocolate or cheesy pasta I’d be starving myself and surviving on as little food as I could.

But today things are different.

Today I love my body and here’s why you should too…

1.) You only have ONE body!

Think about that for a moment.

Yes it’s true you can have plastic surgery or get a prosthetic limb but we are born and die in the same body – we don’t get a free upgrade.

Isn’t that reason enough to show it some love?

2.) Your body is AMAZING!

Each and every day your body is fulfilling millions of different functions without you even having to consciously think about it.

When’s the last time you had to tell your body to breathe or digest your food?

Your body is a machine, an absolutely wondrous feat of natural engineering and deserves to be respected accordingly.

3.) Ain’t no body like your body!

Your body is completely unique to you!

It’s not like a car – no one else has the exact same make or model.

So instead of comparing yourself to others, remind yourself of how special you are.

4.) I wanna dance with some body!

Take a moment to appreciate all of the things your body allows you to do – dancing, walking, running, skiing, swimming etc.

Some people can’t do these things of course, whether it’s due to disability or another condition.

But if you have 100% mobility and shy away from beach volleyball because you think you look fat in a bikini then you’re doing it wrong.

5.) Starting with the (wo)man in the mirror

When you choose to love yourself and accept your body for how it is right now (not when you’ve lost weight, or your acne has cleared up) then you’re setting an example for others to also love and accept themselves.

Let’s make body positivity the change we want to see in the world!

Let’s talk about…Depression

Let’s talk about depression…

▫️

I used to suffer from the debilitating kind.

▫️

I’d have those days where I’d wake up and I couldn’t lift my head because it felt like someone had placed a brick on my forehead.

▫️

When it got really bad I’d feel suicidal and I tried to kill myself twice.

▫️

I don’t believe depression is an illness in and of itself – it’s just a symptom of repressed emotion, trauma, stagnant energy or a knot in your heart that you haven’t honoured or acknowledged.

▫️

I don’t have those really dark moments anymore but I have felt quite heavy and low for the past couple of days.

▫️

I couldn’t figure out why.

▫️

Then this morning I pulled an angel card for Archangel Haniel (a moon goddess) and it said “Honour your feelings.”

▫️

So I did.

▫️

I took a deep breath and did a few rounds of EFT tapping, allowing myself to honour and acknowledge all of what I was feeling – stuck, frustrated, angry with myself, fed up that things in my life weren’t moving fast enough, impatient, perfectionistic.

▫️

The tears came and I let them.

▫️

I leant in to that resistance and afterwards I felt so much lighter and brighter.

▫️

The perfectionist in me didn’t even want to acknowledge I was being a perfectionist so that’s why I’d gone into a slump – you don’t have to worry about getting things perfect if you don’t try at all.

▫️

But there is a middle ground – I can accept that my best today is good enough and that will change from day to day.

▫️

Today honour how you’re feeling and allow yourself to step into flow and out of resistance.

▫️

You are ENOUGH!

▫️

I created my own Tarot Deck! – The Cosmic Kat Tarot

Hello beautiful souls,

If you follow me on social media you’ll already know all about my Cosmic Kat Tarot deck.

But for those of you who don’t, I thought I’d fill you in…

The World

The Cosmic Kat Tarot was a project I conceived thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign and I self-published it via Make Playing Cards.

Here’s the link if you’d like to buy a copy of the The Cosmic Kat Tarot

I hand drew and designed all of the 78 cards myself using sharpies, markers, pencils and oil pastels.

It’s loosely based on the Rider Waite Smith deck and features bright, vibrant and colourful illustrations.

I created a unboxing and walkthrough video on my YouTube channel where I go through the deck and talk about each card in detail.

The deck takes it’s name from the creator, me Kat, and cats provide the main focus of the cards.

But these aren’t any ordinary cats!

They’re Cosmic cats which come from far off lands and different dimensions.

These other worldly cats have been sent to teach us about life, love, spirituality and everything in between.

Allow them to transfix you with their charm, allure and playfulness as you step into their magical realm.

The first card in the Major Arcana, The Fool, features a cat jumping off into space as it begins its quest for knowledge and understanding.

The 4 of coins

Moving through the suits of cups, coins, swords and wands the cosmic cats reveal the secrets of the universe and how we can adapt them to life on our own planet – as above, so below.

The World card completes the cycle with a depiction of a cat embodying planet earth since they have returned from their space voyage and now must teach us humans how to live life to the fullest and look after our own planet.

The designs are fun and light making this an ideal deck to use with children and a must-have for cat lovers.

6 Full Moon rituals

Tonight is the Full Super moon in Leo.

Full moons are the perfect time to re-energise, re-charge and look back on all that we’ve achieved since the New Moon.

Here are 10 ideas for rituals that can help you to harness the energy of the full moon – remember these are just suggestions and you can always create your own….

1. Have a ritual bath

Fill up the tub with epsom salts or your favourite essential oils, put on some relaxing music and let all your worries and cares wash away. The Moon controls the tides and waters so this is a very powerful way to purify and cleanse yourself. Be open to any visions you might experience and write them down after so you can remember them.

2. Cleanse and charge your crystals

Cleanse your crystals in the usual way (with sage or by placing them in salt) and program them with your intentions. You can do this by holding the crystal in your hand and focusing on what you want it to help you with or by speaking or breathing your intention into it. Then just place them on your windowsill or outside to soak up the full moon’s energy.

3. Make Moon water

Water that’s been charged with the energy of the full moon makes a good space and aura cleanser. Just put some water where it can soak up the moonlight overnight. Then pour it into a spray bottle. You could also put a crystal in the water like amethyst or clear quartz.

4. Release negativity

Make a list of all the fears and negative traits or aspects of your life that you’d like to release. On each line write “I release…” Then burn it (safely of course.)

5. Full moon tarot spread

On a full moon you might find that your intuition and psychic gifts are heightened. Here’s a suggestion for a spread you can try out. You can also use these as journalling prompts…

1. What do I need to release this Full moon?

2. How can I release this?

3. What have I achieved since the New Moon?

4. What do I need to focus on in the next moon cycle?

6. Make a Gratitude list

The Full Moon is a time of abundance and fulfillment so it’s the perfect opportunity to express gratitude for all the good and positive things in your life. Bury your list in the garden or leave it on your windowsill to soak up the moonlight. Whatever you focus on expands and you will attract more of it into your life.

Happy Full Moon!

Cosmic Kat 🙂

3 Tarot Spreads for Spiritual development

Tarot isn’t just about telling the future.

It can also show us where we currently are on our spiritual journey and how we can get to where we need to be.

Here are three spread suggestions that you can use to assist you in your spiritual development – these will also work with oracle cards.

Write down your findings in your tarot journal or diary so you can refer back to it at a later date.

It’s a good idea to do the same spread a month later in order to track progress and change.

You can adjust these spreads to meet your own personal needs or even make up your own.

Have fun!

The spiritual spot-check

5. How can I come into alignment with my highest good?

This is a good one if you need a spiritual M.O.T.

Don’t worry if the message in the cards isn’t clear or doesn’t make sense to you straight away – you can always reflect on it and come back to it later.

If you aren’t confident with reading cards for yourself, don’t hesitate to get in touch and I will happily do one of these spreads for you – or one tailored to your specific needs.

Meetings with Earth Angels

“Earth angels help others remember who they are.”

– Doreen Virtue.

What exactly is an Earth Angel?

Well, in one sense they’re what you might call “lightworkers”; people who’s purpose on this earth is to shine their light, heal others and help humanity to ascend and awaken spiritually.

They’re doctors, scientists, Reiki healers, comedians, teachers and even gardeners.

In the novel One Day by David Nicholls I feel the character of Emma sums up what it means to be an Earth Angel perfectly.

She says her goal is to “Not change the world exactly, but the bit around (her).”

That’s all any of us can really do and it’s important to remember on those dark days when the most empathic among us may feel the intensity of the pain, destruction, war and conflict of the world upon our shoulders.

But I also believe that Earth Angels can be Angels who incarnate and discarnate at will in order to help us.

You might have read stories of people who’ve been visited by Angels and saw a spectacular dazzling vision of light, a figure with halo and wings.

But I believe I’ve been visited by Angels who just looked like normal people.

When I hadn’t long moved to London I decided to go busking.

I’d just done some work with a spiritual mentor and handed over my will and my life to my Higher Power by saying a prayer by the Thames.

Then I crossed the river, whipped out my ukulele and started to play and sing.

But it didn’t feel right. I knew I was in a restricted zone so it technically wasn’t allowed. I saw every glance from passers by as an acknowledgment of my inadequacy or failure.

Then a man approached me, he didn’t look extraordinary, just a middle-aged slightly overweight man in a polo shirt.

Normally when people encroach on my personal space I feel very uncomfortable and nervous, especially when I’m busking.

But a wave of calm washed over me and I felt at complete ease in this man’s presence.

He said, “Why are you doing this?”

I assumed he was some sort of law enforcement and started to stutter my excuses.

He said, “No why are you doing this? You’re not giving it 100%. You’re slouched against the wall. I don’t know if you’re talented or not but you have to give it your best.”

Then I poured my heart out. I said I’d never busked in London before, that it was scary and out of my comfort zone. That I was afraid people wouldn’t like me or my music.

He said “There’s always going to be people who won’t like what you do. But why don’t you just try your best for 10 minutes.”

I agreed, looked away for a few seconds and when I looked back he’d vanished.

Later I rationalised that maybe he’d just walked away quickly and just got lost in the crowd.

But in that moment I knew it was a divinely special encounter.

Another time I was on a train and chatting about my relationship woes to a friend on the phone.

When I got up to leave the train this man came up to me and handed me a note.

He said, “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation and it’s strikingly similar to my own experience. Have a read of this.”

I was a bit stunned but thanked him.

Later I read the note and it was startling how much his relationship mirrored my own. He’d left his e-mail address and I replied. The system kept saying it was un-deliverable but somehow he received every one of my e-mails even though I’d spelt his name differently each time.

I’m not sure if he was an Angel incarnate but the universe definitely mobilised him in that moment to reach out to me.

There were also various times when I ended up crying in public but someone always came up to me to ask if I was ok and took time to listen to me.

In a city as vast and busy as London, where many would have you believe that humanity is dead, this really struck me.

So be open to the magical encounters you may have in your life and consider, is that random stranger heaven sent or could they actually be an Angel in disguise?

How to use Tarot to manifest your desires

Tarot cards are a powerful spiritual tool that allow us an insight into our subconscious and can help us to communicate with our ancestors and spirit guides.

But did you know that Tarot can also be used with the law of attraction to manifest our dreams and desires?

Every tarot card not only holds an image imbued with symbolism and meaning but also an ENERGY.

It is this energy which can allow us to manifest the life we dream of.

Here’s some ideas to get you started….

vision board 1.jpg

Tarot Vision board

Create a vision board using tarot cards (you might want to reserve a deck especially for this purpose).

Think of a goal, dream or desire that you have and keep it in mind as you shuffle the deck.

Ask your angel and spirit guides to reveal the card that will help you to manifest your goal (s).

Stick each card on the board and write down some affirmations on a piece of paper.

Pin this next to it (or if using a white board you can write them around the card).

E.g You might have the goal to love yourself and be healthy and happy in your own skin. The card that might come out of the deck is The Empress and your affirmations could be “I am happy and healthy”, “I love and accept myself”, “I am and peace and feel comfortable in my own skin.”

candle magick

Manifestation spell

Start by casting a circle.

The simplest way to do this is to call in the elements or spirits of fire, earth, air and water and with your hand, a feather or a wand turn in a clockwise circle and visualise a bright white light surrounding you.

Ask for protection and assistance from your angel and spirit guides.

Write down your “manifesto” on a piece of paper.

Ask for assistance and guidance from your angel and spirit guides or appropriate Gods/Goddesses/Deities.

Here’s an example,

“Guardian Angel, heavenly spirit of the cosmos and Goddess Selene,

Please help me to feel whole, happy and healthy again,

Remove the energy and mental blockages that are holding me back

Let me live in abundance, and not in lack.”

Say this out loud x 3 and end with “And harm none, So mote it be.”

Fold up the paper and write the name of the person who the spell is for on the front (whether it is for you or someone else) and go over this with a pentacle symbol (pentagram inside a circle).

Once again shuffle your deck and ask for the card (s) to be revealed that will help you to achieve the desired outcome of the spell.

Place your folded up paper on top of the card.

Then light a candle, place this on top of the card(s) and folded-up-paper (make sure it’s in a heat-proof container) and spend a few moments visualising the positive outcome you desire.

Close your circle by thanking your angel and spirit guides and using your hand, wand or a feather to turn in an anti-clockwise direction. Ask for the energy and magic you have cultivated to be released into the universe in order to manifest your desire.

This is most powerful if conducted at the appropriate Moon phase, i.e Full Moon = Fulfilment/completion/wishes, Waning moon = letting go/releasing, New Moon = New beginnings, Waxing moon = building/working towards something.

WARNING: Be very specific and careful what you wish for!

5 ways to protect your energy

Energy.

From the actions we take, to our motives and intentions, to the words we speak and the feelings we emit.

Everything is energy.

That’s why it’s so important to look after and protect it.

When I say energy I’m not talking about our physical energy (which is also important) but rather our subtle energy bodies, our chi, our life force, which can be easily drained and infected in the same way we can catch a cold or flu.

When our aura or energy field is imbalanced this in turn can affect our mental, spiritual and physical health.

Think about it.

Have you ever come home a party feeling extremely drained?

Have you ever been in a large crowd but still felt stressed out and tense once in the solitude of your own home?

Have you ever been around or spoken to someone who was depressed, anxious or having a bad day and when you left them you found you’d absorbed some of this energy?

The chances are, at some point you’ve been affected by someone else’s energy.

As a tarot reader and an empath this is something I have to be extremely conscious of.

In order to do a reading I have to connect with another person’s energy so I can intuitively understand what’s going on for them.

But even if you’re not in a profession that requires you to connect with someone on an empathetic or psychic level it’s still important to look after your energetic health.

These tips will help you to detach from the energy of those around you so you can feel more energised, positive and calm on a daily basis…

1. Avoid people and situations that drain your energy

This is not always possible, but when you can, try to be mindful of “energy vampires.” That is to say, people who wallow in low vibrational energy and (unconsciously) drag you down to their level through offloading their woes, anxieties and negativity. This doesn’t mean you can’t be there for a friend who’s having a hard time or lend a kind ear to someone in need. Just check in with yourself before you pick up the phone, reply to that message or agree to a catch up. Does the thought of it fill you with dread and a tightness in the stomach or do you feel light and open? It’s ok to say no, have boundaries and perhaps delay engaging with such people until you feel stronger and more able to cope on an energetic level.

Likewise, you can turn down that party invitation or social invite if you feel like you just need to be on your own. Relax in your own energy for a while and take a moment to recharge.

2. Visualisation

Inevitably you will encounter situations where you have to be around people who will affect your energy. Perhaps you’re a teacher, counsellor, journalist, nurse, doctor or police officer. Most jobs involve having some sort of interaction with other people and some are more draining than others. In these cases it can help to start the day with a simple meditation. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and visualise a large glass dome or a bright white light all around you. Feel it envelop you and surround you. Call on your angels, guides or Higher Power to place this energetic protection around you, making your aura less susceptible to negative energies. Ask for any negative energies coming towards you to be transmuted by this invisible force field. Feel the strength and power of this divine protection. Take another deep breath, open your eyes and carry on with your day.

3. Limit social media

This is something I personally struggle with. When scrolling through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc. it can be very easy to be drawn into the stories, rants, woes and misgivings of others. Soon you find yourself feeling angry, sad, upset or annoyed by something that really has nothing to do with you. It might help to have a designated time of the day that you use social media. Avoid using it straight before bed or as soon as you wake up. Having these periods where you can just be at peace with yourself and your own thoughts will help you to replenish your energy reserves.

4. Crystals

Certain crystals can also offer protection from psychic or energetic attack. All you need to do is cleanse your crystal (with sage, incense, water, or by placing it in salt overnight) and then charge it with your intention to be energetically and psychically protected. Just hold it for a minute or two and affirm “I am safe and protected from all negative energy.” It can help to visualise bright white light flowing into your crystal through the top of your head and into your crystal via your arms and hands or you can blow on the crystal whilst keeping your intention in mind. Carry your crystal with you in your purse, pocket or even your bra. Remember to cleanse and re-charge it regularly.

My favourite protective crystals are….

  • Black Tourmaline
  • Snowflake Obsidian
  • Tiger’s Eye
  • Onyx
  • Sapphire

5. Cleanse your energy

After a long day it can help to cleanse your auric field of all the energetic debris you may have picked up. You can do this in several ways…

  • Have a soak in a bath with dead sea salts, rosemary and peppermint oil.
  • Smudge your aura with White Sage (in smudge stick or incense form).
  • Do a meditation where you visualise a bright white light cleansing your aura and washing away all negative energy.
  • Call on Archangel Michael to cut any negative energy cords and attachments with his fiery blue sword.
  • Go for a walk and feel the wind and rain cleanse you of all the energies of the day.
  • Have a shower and visualise any negative energy being washed away down the plug hole.
